Nerve Testing, Advanced Circulatory Testing and Consultation

By COFAI • January 13, 2025 • Comments Off on Nerve Testing, Advanced Circulatory Testing and Consultation

At the Caribbean Foot and Ankle Institute (COFAI), we offer Nerve Testing in conjunction with Advanced Circulatory Testing, a comprehensive approach to assessing the health of diabetic feet. While circulatory testing focuses on evaluating blood flow and vascular health, nerve testing specifically assesses the functioning of the nerves in the feet and lower limbs, which is essential for diabetic patients who are at risk of neuropathy. This dual approach ensures that both circulatory and nerve-related issues are identified and addressed, helping prevent complications like ulcers, infections, and amputations.

What to Expect During Your Visit

The visit begins with a thorough consultation where our specialists review your medical history, symptoms, and risk factors for nerve and circulatory problems. We will also conduct a physical examination to assess your foot health, checking for any signs of numbness, tingling, or pain, which may indicate nerve damage.

In addition to the above, we utilize Biothesiometry Testing, a diagnostic method that is particularly useful for evaluating neuropathy in diabetic patients. It measures a patient’s ability to perceive vibrations, temperature changes, and pressure stimuli, helping to assess nerve function in the feet and lower limbs. This test is crucial for detecting early signs of peripheral neuropathy, a condition that can lead to numbness, pain, or loss of sensation, increasing the risk of ulcers and injuries. By identifying nerve damage early, biothesiometry testing allows for timely interventions to prevent complications and improve patient outcomes.

In Advanced Circulatory Testing, we use sophisticated diagnostic tools like Doppler ultrasound, segmental pressure measurements, and Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) testing to assess blood flow to the feet and legs. These tests help detect circulatory problems like peripheral arterial disease (PAD) or blockages, which can hinder healing and increase the risk of infections.

Based on the results of both tests, COFAI specialists provide a detailed consultation and develop a personalized treatment plan. This may include lifestyle changes, medications, specialized therapies, or referrals to other specialists if necessary. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor progress and ensure optimal foot health.

At COFAI, we prioritize comprehensive care for diabetic feet, combining nerve and circulatory assessments to deliver a holistic approach to foot health.

This patient had been struggling with persistent foot pain 🦶🏽, and despite previous evaluations, the cause was still undetermined. However, when she came to us, signs of blood pooling below her foot and x-ray results 🩻 pointed to a Lisfranc injury. Watch as we uncover the true cause of her pain and treat it with internal fixation using plates and screws🔩, getting her back on the path to healing💪🏽. #foot #injury #fracture #pain #lisfrancinjury #surgery #fyp #trini_tiktoks
