Comprehensive Assessment of Diabetic Feet at COFAI

By COFAI • January 13, 2025 • Comments Off on Comprehensive Assessment of Diabetic Feet at COFAI

The Caribbean Foot and Ankle Institute (COFAI) is dedicated to providing expert care for diabetic foot conditions. One of our cornerstone services is the Comprehensive Diabetic Foot Assessment, designed to identify, treat, and prevent complications related to diabetes. This service plays a vital role in maintaining mobility and preventing severe outcomes, such as infections or amputations.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Patients undergoing a diabetic foot assessment at COFAI can expect a thorough and patient-centered experience. The visit typically begins with a detailed medical history review, where our specialists gather information about your diabetes management, any history of foot ulcers, or previous complications.

Next, a physical examination focuses on the feet, assessing circulation, sensation, skin condition, and musculoskeletal structure. Using advanced diagnostic tools, we measure blood flow and check for signs of nerve damage (neuropathy). Early detection of reduced sensation is crucial in preventing wounds from going unnoticed.

Our specialists also evaluate footwear, as poorly fitting shoes are a common cause of foot injuries in diabetic patients. Recommendations are provided for custom orthotics or diabetic-friendly footwear if necessary.

Personalized Treatment and Prevention Plans

Based on the assessment, COFAI creates a customized treatment and prevention plan. This may include wound care for existing ulcers, medication to improve circulation, or physical therapy to address mobility challenges. For patients at high risk, regular follow-ups and education on proper foot care are provided.

Our mission is to empower patients to take control of their foot health, reduce complications, and improve their quality of life. Through state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and compassionate care, COFAI ensures that your healing is our success.

This patient had been struggling with persistent foot pain 🦶🏽, and despite previous evaluations, the cause was still undetermined. However, when she came to us, signs of blood pooling below her foot and x-ray results 🩻 pointed to a Lisfranc injury. Watch as we uncover the true cause of her pain and treat it with internal fixation using plates and screws🔩, getting her back on the path to healing💪🏽. #foot #injury #fracture #pain #lisfrancinjury #surgery #fyp #trini_tiktoks
